Quiet reading happens now every morning. We had gym. and we talked about healthy foods to bring for lunch. Have a great long weekend!

Thursday August 30th

Today we did a puzzle piece, our picture went in the middle of the puzzle piece then drew things that were important to us around it, we cut it out and Ms Adamson is going to make it into a big puzzle on our bulletin board. We had our daily circle passing our sweetgrass and had our final name challenge, Aleeza was able to get everyone's name! In math we worked on patterns. We read a book about belonging because we ALL BELONG here in this classroom. We did some writing about what we learned yesterday from our special presenter from the Dental Bus. Grade 2s also wrote about what they wished their teacher knew about them, grade ones worked on their letter 'a' and some cutting and gluing work. We also did some partner reading in the morning and silent reading in the afternoon. Now we are off to gym. We'll see you soon.

Special Visit

The dental bus came today and gave us lots of information about how to take care of our teeth, they gave us toothbrushes, and they also gave us permission forms to go to the dental bus when they come to visit over the school year. Students can go to the bus for free with a signed permission form! We learned about eating healthy foods, and that unhealthy food should only be for occasional treats as they can be bad for our teeth. In math we worked on making different types of patterns. We also did some writing, grade ones wrote sentences with Mrs. Mazurak and grade twos wrote about their summer with a picture with Ms. Adamson. We did silent reading today, added two days to our calendar as we ran out of time yesterday, did our daily circle time and ended it with a challenge, most of us are able to get nearly everyone's name. Now we are off to music, see you soon!

Last day of our first FULL WEEK

Today we started our day with silent reading. Then we ripped up colors- red, orange, yellow, green, and blue and violet to make a rainbow. ROYGBIV. This will end our review of colors. We did circle time, we talked about how we feel today- this is what we are going to do every circle time so Ms. Adamson knows how we are feeling. We did the calendar and finished off our first full week. We had some story time.  Today we also had some free choice time where we could do dot to dots, easy medium or hard and we also had easy, medium or hard word searches. We also did an art walk to see everybody's buckets. Then we chose which one we did the best, and Ms. Adamson is going to put them up on the wall.

Thursday August 23rd

Good Afternoon!

Today we learned more about how to be a bucket filler. Being a bucket filler means doing nice things for other people to fill their bucket, when we do mean things their bucket slowly empty's and they don't feel happy. We all want to be bucket fillers not spillers!

We also worked more on our number and color recognition, as well as our writing. Grade 2s were able to work all by ourselves while the rest of us Grade ones worked with Ms. Adamson. In Math the Grade 2s made our own 100s charts and then learned a game called 'Race to 100' where we used adding and subtracting in our goal to reach 100.

It's Thursday! We are almost done our first full week of school! Students come to school tomorrow well rested and ready for a bit of Friday Fun!

In the afternoon we listened to a story called 'Have You Filled a Bucket Today' talking about being a kind person and a friend. Then we got a bucket printout to color with oil pastels, we tried to use every color in the box. Finally we had gym today- for those who were here yesterday it was our second time. End of Week One

Boy, that was quick!

Parents, today we went to music class and met Ms Fung who will be teaching us music for the rest of the year. Then we traced our hands, cut them out and decorated them to be posted on our hangers so we always remember where to hang our things. We also spent some time today writing and drawing pictures to tell Ms. Adamson a bit more about ourselves. Finally we spent some time getting to know each other with a fun activity where we had to find someone in the class who had done or liked certain things. This helped us feel more comfortable with each other and get to know each other a little better.

Students and Parents, I hope that you have a fantastic weekend. Get lots of sleep and come in on Monday ready to learn.

First Day of School

Hello parents.

Our first day of school was a success! Today we went on a scavenger hunt around the school to find important places that we need to be able to find like the music room, the washroom, the learning commons, the gym and the office. We were able to answer clues about each room to figure out where we were going next. We also showed Ms. Adamson all of the things that we know how to do like: write our name, write letters and write numbers. We drew her pictures to show her what we did on our summer vacation and some of us also wrote sentences about our pictures. We learned sign language to ask to go to the bathroom and to get water. Finally we did a sharing circle to tell all of our classmates our names and a little bit about ourselves. Lots of us made new friends and caught up with old ones.

Students, I am very excited to see you all again tomorrow!
